This week I'll be working on Eka Pada Kapotasana (One-legged Pigeon pose)
I've included a couple of images of me practicing the Asana (posture) on Brighton Beach. My husband Gabriel photographed it.
It is a really beautiful and challenging stretch. I practiced yoga for years before I was able to actually get the full expression of it. I found it really helpful to practice hip openers every day, including but not limited to the more lunar version of pigeon. I think what really helped me to get it was backbending. I recommend a supported fish pose (with blocks) 5-15 minutes a day. It is amazing what is possible if you are able to find time to breathe and relax with an open chest for at least a few moments each day and to observe what kind of things come into your life when you are more receptive and open in the heart space.
Benfits of this pose: This posture stimulates the abdominal organs, stretches the thighs, groin, shoulders, neck, chest, and abdomen. In addition, it opens the shoulders and chest which can help improve posture and mood. Great!
Love, honor, and listen to your body!
